The Grand

Tea Tray

The Grand is a tea tray designed by Guokun Wang and Gang Wang that combines luxury stone with CNC machining technology. The main body of The Grand is made of black stone, embedded with luxury stone according to the rules of the golden section. This exquisite and natural picturesque design breaks through visual imagination, emanating a noble sense from the inside out.

From an industrial design perspective, The Grand stands out for its unique combination of luxury stone and tea tray design. The precise calculation of geometric surface form 3.5 shelving allows the tea tray to function as a water drainage system. The overall design is sleek and minimal, providing a visually appealing and functional tea tray.

The Grand is made using PROE to build a 3-dimensional model, CNC machining for processing the stone material, and polished fire for surface treatment. The use of CNC machining technology allows for the precise realization of the tea tray's drainage function. The dimensions of The Grand are 900mm in width, 280mm in depth, and 30mm in height.

By studying the process of traditional Chinese tea brewing, the designers incorporated a high and low gradient in the tea tray to match users' daily behaviors and achieve natural interaction. Stone was chosen as the material for the tea tray due to its waterproof and wear-resistant properties, making it an ideal carrier for tea disks.

One of the challenges faced during the design process was the implementation of the hidden outlet, which required CNC machining to create an inclined open slot. This was overcome by combining CNC machining with manual processing operations.

The Grand was designed in Xiamen in April 2017 and completed in December 2017. It has been awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware, and Cookware Design category in 2020. This award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, contributing to a better world.
